Doggie!
Derek & I got a puppy! :)
She's a Cairn Terrier, 12 1/2 weeks old. We got her last Saturday, August 7th from a pet store. She's sort of brindle-colored, but we'll see what happens after her first grooming. Many times dogs change colors when they get groomed the first time!
Her name is Taffy, and she's adorable :)
We're very happy with her! There have been moments, of course, when we are exasperated, but we're working on all the puppy "issues"- housebreaking (better, now that I've hung bells & she's understanding how they work!), biting (especially Derek's socks), and behaving overall so we don't have to have an eye on her every second. I think she's going to be a great dog overall though :)

Marching On...(I'm so clever)
So March is more than halfway over, which means several things:
1. Derek & I have been married for just over 6 months *throws confetti*
2. There is one more week of school left before Spring Break (!), but it's a doozy- work Monday, work Tuesday & Master's class Tuesday night, work Wednesday, Open House @ work Wednesday night, work Thursday, 12:55 dismissal time on Friday. That's a LONG week here, people.
3. Spring Break is going to be super relaxing. I just wish the weather was going to stay warm (it was 68 yesterday!), but no, starting tonight it's going to be in the 30's again and possibly snow. Yes, snow. That means I have to put my sandals away :(
4. There are exactly 11 weeks of school left until SUMMER *major confetti storm* (not counting Spring Break week)
5. Once summer comes, we are getting a dog! Maybe a Jack Russell terrier, or maybe a Yorkie, or a Westie... lots of options.
6. I have started eating healthier/exercising. I have started on a health kick lately, which can only be good for me. I do not deprive myself of things I want, otherwise I will just eat more of it at a later date. I know this from experience. Instead, if I want a dish of ice cream, I will have it- but it's the one with half the fat (just as good!) in a pyrex custard dish. I still enjoy it, and it takes away my craving. I have also started walking for exercise too- just yesterday Derek & I walked 2 miles together in just under a half-hour! My feet are making me pay for it, though- I have 2 massive blisters. Oh well, I'll just have to break in my feet :-P
7. We have started SPRING CLEANING 2010. This entailed me making lists upon lists of every room in the house and what needed to be done in it. For example, the laundry room: vacuum top of heater, vacuum between washer & dryer, clorox wipe inside the washer, organize supplies, Swiffer mop (my new best friend) the floor. BUSY! But if we go a room per day, we'll be done in about 2 1/2 weeks. Yikes. Good thing some of the rooms are smaller (like laundry room and bathrooms) that we can combine- but then the hobby room is a day or weekend all on its own. Oh well. It'll be nice to have a clean, fresh, springy house :)
That's about it- going to get ready for my Dad's retirement party! He's officially retired from the Fire Department after 35 years. Hurray Dad! :)

I need to be more on top of this thing...
I apologize to all of you in bloggy-land who actually read this (probably not very many) for not keeping this updated, but the months leading up to the wedding were TOTALLY crazy. School ended in mid-June; I had 2 wedding showers in June/July; Hayward fishing trip with the fam in August; back to school end of August.
Then the wedding was September 12, 2009, and was AMAZING. We had the best time. We had all our family & most of our friends there to celebrate with us, and it was so awesome. The ceremony went beautifully, I managed not to cry until it was over, and the reception rocked. We had a great time! Then we went to Lake Geneva for 3 days just to get away and relax, then I went back to work the following Thursday.
School's going well- I can't believe I've been there for 3 years already! Time sure flies. I am starting my master's cohort program in January through St. Xavier University, and that'll take 2 years, but will get me a pretty sweet pay raise when it's done. I told Derek once we have more money coming in, we'll have kids...I like to make him nervous ;-).
Believe it or not, I think that's it. I've got a steady few months of school, then over winter break Derek & I are going on our official honeymoon to St. Lucia in the Caribbean. We are staying at the Sandals Grande St. Lucia. It will be amazing; can't wait!!!!!

Da Da Dah....
Happy Birthday to me,
Happy Birthday to me,
Happy Birthday to Megan,
Happy Birthday to me!
A quarter of a century old today...wow. Pretty unbelievable when you stop to think about it. All of the things that have happened since 1984, and I'm still sitting here today. I am further than I thought I'd ever be- I have a house, a fish (still!), an almost-husband (3 1/2 months to the wedding!), some very amazing friends, and the best family. I do have it pretty good. Of course, there are all the little things- our fridge is not cold but no one can seem to figure out what's wrong with it, I desperately wish I had a cleaning lady- but all in all, I've got it pretty good.
The plants I have planted from seed in my yard are coming up strong! There are lots of leaves, and much green...no flowers yet, but hopefully soon!
My wedding shower is in 2 weeks! I am very excited. I have tried to control myself and not check out the registry on bedbathandbeyond.com, however, that plan is not going very well. I check pretty much every day...I love to see how many things have been picked up. I am obsessed with counting new items that have been picked up. It is bad, too, in a way, because in order to check the registry, I have to go through the home page, which always has so many cute things that I just HAVE to add on to the registry...I need to stop. It's an obsession.
12 days left of work, THANK GOD. If there was one more day I would just curl up under my desk and let the kids act like monkeys. I am so exhausted from these last 2 weeks that I am ready to drop. Time to start packing up the room and getting everything ready for summer. No summer school classes for me this year- nothing ran. Too bad, because it would have been a great deal more money, but good, because now I can focus on the wedding plans we have yet to finish. Busy, busy!
Speaking of busy, it's about time to leave for Mom's for my birthday breakfast, presents, and birthday cheesecake! Toodles!

Mr. Fish gets a new home
Derek & I went on a date tonight! Yes, a real date- dinner and a movie. Who knew that it now costs $9.50 for 1 ticket to a movie?!? However, we did get a 1/2 price appetizer and 1 entree free at dinner, so it all evened out.
But I digress.
So after dinner, we decided to hit up PetSmart. We'd been talking about getting Mr. Finn Fish (our red-cap Oranda goldfish) a new home. His is a bit small, and it's just a plastic carrying tank that holds less than 1 gallon of water. He has been a good fish, and deserves a new home. We look around at some of the crazy, 300-gallon fish tanks that are seriously $400 for JUST THE TANK, and then move on to the cheap aisle. We find it! It's a 10-gallon tank, and it came with everything- de-chlor drops, stress coat, filter, hood w/light, and food- for just under $40. Amazing. So we load it up, grab a 10-pound bag of gravel and a new fishy toy (cave w/lots of holes and cool coral designs), and get out of there for under $60. So cool.
We see the movie (Taken- great action, good plot, but the ending fell really flat- like someone tripped it while it was sprinting to the finish line and it just died on the spot), then head home to set up said tank. This took much work- rinsing in the bathtub upstairs, washing all the gravel by hand, filling the tank with the gravel, filling the tank with water, setting up the filter, hood w/light, and all other assorted paraphenalia. Now time for the moment of truth- we plug it in and- it works! The filter quietly filters (good...) and the light lights (even better...). Now we just have to let the filter run for 48 hours to make sure it works well and then Mr. Fish is going to move.
The entire time we were setting this up, however, he very nervously swam back and forth on one side of his little tank watching us. I believe that he thinks we are getting new fish. He will be reassured when we transfer him on Monday, but until then, he will just be nervous. Thank goodness he only has a 3-second memory. "Oh what's that? For new fish? ........... "Oh what's that? For new fish? ........." You get the idea.
Think good thoughts for Mr. Fish when he moves! :)
.....I really need a dog.....
